Dissenting Opinions
The Supreme Court unanimously voted in Peck's favor. The votes were 5-0, as two of the justices did not participate. These two justices were Samuel Chase and William Cushing.
Concurring Opinions
Justice William Johnson delivered a concurring opinion on the case. In this opinion, he stated that, regarding the Supreme Court, "It is our duty to decide on the rights, but not on the speculations of parties.". Johnson believed that this case wasn't one which should be in the Supreme Court. However, he believed that Peck should win the case, and trusted that this was an important issue that needed to be presented to the Supreme Court, even if he personally did not believe so. As a result, he voted along with the majority.
